Wandering through the realms of the cosmos, pondering its huge vastness

About this site

Hi everyone and welcome to my astronomy blog! 🙂

I’m Raven Yu (not my real name), an amateur astronomer and science-enthusiast from the Philippines who loves discovering and learning new things about life and everything that goes around the vast universe.

I started this blog last June, 2010 and it’s still a work in progress. It mainly contains my observations of the night sky and insights regarding astronomical events, and also some amateur astro-images taken by me or by my fellow amateurs.

I put up this blog to help spread knowledge and enthusiasm in the field of astronomy, to share my passion, and likewise to inspire other amateur astronomers like me to pursue their love for this field.

I’ll be updating this site with information and photos  regarding the latest topics on astronomy.

If you want to contact me, please feel free to send me an email at cosmicwanderer05@gmail.com

  8. Hi, I have read from your blog that you have ordered a galileoscope from galileoscope.org. and paid customs tax for it. i am planning to order one, may i know how much the customs tax that was imposed on your galileoscope?

    • Hi Jojo,

I picked up the parcel from the Marikina Post Office and paid 500 pesos for the tax. It was originally charged with 1000 pesos, but since students get 50% discount, I only paid half of it.

      Cheers!

    Hi Raven,

I came across your blog while trying to verify if what I was seeing was Saturn or not, and thanks to your post, I know now that what I have been seeing was Saturn and that the star next to it is Porrima! I’ve recently got into amateur astronomy and your blog is a great source of information and your photos are really nice too 😀

By the way, I still can’t seem to make out Saturn’s rings with my binoculars; do you need a telescope?

    • Hi Kcaze,

Thanks. 🙂 Regarding your question, you need a telescope to see the rings. Even a small scope will do. Cheers and happy viewing!

    Dear Raven,

I’m from Davao City and every time I come home from work (sometimes 4:00 AM) the only thing I can recognize is the Big Dipper and the Moon. With your help walking home will be more interesting for me!

    Keep it up! Thanks.

    Merry Christmas.

    • Hi Dodjie!

Thanks! Happy to hear that 🙂 According to a friend who frequently visits Davao, the night sky there is truly awesome. Hope you find this blog useful in familiarizing with the celestial objects visible during this season. I’ll try my best to update this blog regularly with skygazing tips.

      Maligayang Pasko rin! 😀
